Alice Tersteeg

Alice Tersteeg has been studying Alaskan wildlife and scenery since her arrival in Alaska in 1973. After living in Sitka for eight years she moved to Juneau where she continued to teach art for the University of Alaska Southeast. She has interpreted flora and fauna in many media including pastels, oils, watercolors, serigraphs, etchings, relief prints and various combinations.

Alice received the first Masters Degree in Art from California State University, Chico. Her Master of Fine Arts Degree is from Syracuse University in New York. Alice’s works have been shown in prominent galleries and museums throughout the Pacific Rim including Japan, Hawai’i, and all over Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

She has been honored with numerous awards and recognitions including the Award of Excellence, Featured Artist and People’s Choice Award in Audubon exhibits, the Alaska State Council on the Arts Purchase Awards (7), and the Alaska Historical and Fine Arts Museum Purchase Awards.

She retired after almost forty years of teaching for the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, where she was Professor of Art and Chair of the Art Department. During her tenure, Alice was instrumental in developing several programs including: Certificate in Northwest Coast Art, Associates Degree in Northwest Coast Art, Associates Degree in Art, Bachelors Degree in Northwest Coast Art, and the Bachelor’s Degree in Art.
